Daniella's Closet: Part 2

This is the second half of 'Daniella's Closet'. I feel like we barely made a ding in her collection, but when it got to midnight we were all a bit beat. That being said I expect we'll be doing another one of these shoots sometime soon. For now enjoy Daniella's 'illegal-in-most-states samurai sword'...

and just for fun...

Daniella's Closet: Part 1

So my friend and model Daniella has this amazing closet filled with so many vintage goodies that were begging to be photographed. It just so happens she herself is gorgeous and made for the perfect model. So for about 5 hours last Saturday night she was running around my apartment complex in little to no clothing. It was freezing that night, but fortunately for her, the vintage collection she brought over was full of big fur coats. We had also done a shoot earlier that evening which I am working on finishing up and will be publishing in a couple days. The earlier shoot was for Dainty* and we had a fabulous hair and make-up girl there to help. It was a very long night, but so much fun. By about 9pm we all needed to refuel so ordered an amazing vegan pizza and then got back to work until about midnight. Daniella was a trooper and I am very happy with the results. Here is the first set of my favorites:

Look for part 2 tomorrow!

Muscian Elaine Faye

Last week I did a shoot for musician Elaine Faye for her new album due out in March. The album is called Matters of the Heart so she wanted cover work along that theme. We were going for more of a gritty look that had this tiny bit of warmth to it. Last week was also when Southern California was hit with torrential downpours and crazy windstorms everyday. Somehow we managed to schedule to shoot in the only 2 hour block that was mild the entire week. The sun wasn't out because of the impending rain, which made for perfect light. And literally 20 minutes after the shoot ended it was pouring again. We also made some workers day because she was modeling outside their warehouse in a tiny white dress on a cold windy afternoon...best lunch break they probably had all week.

Anyway, the first two images are most likely what the final effects will look like as far as color and texture, and the rest are just some of my favorite images from the shoot. (you can click some of the images to see bigger) What do you think?

Location, location, location

I spent the entire afternoon driving around the entire city looking for new locations to shoot. Some I already had in mind and wanted to test out, others were just happened upon. I'm doing a shoot Tuesday (weather permitting) for a musician who requested an urban/gritty feel. It never rains in San Diego, but naturally when I have a shoot on a tight schedule its going to rain all week. Living in a medium sized city, urban and gritty doesn't seem like a hard request. However, they have done a darn good job cleaning up the Downtown/Gaslamp district and there is much less grit than you would imagine left behind. I traveled a little to the outskirts to find some better spots, the results of which you'll see later this week after the shoot.

We are also working on a new set of promotional images for Derek which I am very excited about. He should have a new EP coming out sometime this year and we are putting together a pretty cool concept for it. This idea may or may not include a shoot in this little magical place:
The fact that its still January and we have this amazing green grass makes me so happy. I could complain about missing east coast winters and the snow, but I can't complain about spots like this. Anyway this is going to be a very busy week photographically and I'm excited about that. I'm going to try to get Derek to do some yoga with me, then make some yummy tofu concoction. Happy Sunday!

Stay tuned...

So with the new year off to a quick start I am becoming almost overwhelming motivated. In the next couple weeks you can expect at least 4 (hopefully) awesome photo shoots and to hear about some other potentially amazing photo related things I've been working on. I spent tonight getting a wardrobe ready for a shoot next Saturday that I am very excited about. One of my goals for the new year is to do more personal projects, and this is the first. I will also be doing a shoot for Daintys* spring line, a local fashion designer, a few musicians and a pretty fun little promo shoot for Derek. Since I don't have anything professional to share right now, I thought I'd leave you with some fun polaroids from New Years Eve...

Goodnight!

2009 was a grand 'ol time...

2009 was very good to me. I had the opportunity to meet and connect with so many amazing musicians, artists and other creative souls, all of whom were a real inspiration. I wanted to share with you a few of my favorite images from the year that came from these meetings. So in no particular order, here goes:
